If you need a large filling, a porcelain inlay or onlay may be the right treatment option for you.
Inlays and onlays offer strength and durability and help prevent further deterioration to the tooth.
This treatment is an alternative and less invasive option to a dental crown. An inlay or onlay may be opted for instead of a filling if the decay or fracture is too big.
Inlays or onlays are applied to teeth that have damage or decay at the back of the mouth.
Inlays and onlays are created to blend in with the natural colour of the remaining structure of the tooth.
Onlays normally cover the cusp of the tooth while inlays are used more to fill in the gap between cusps to strengthen damaged teeth against chewing and biting.
At the first appointment, the remaining tooth will be prepared to accommodate the inlay or onlay which is custom created to fit in with your tooth. An impression of the tooth will be taken so that the inlay or onlay can be made.
At the second appointment the inlay or onlay is cemented to the remaining tooth.
